Military drones are the most prevalent and widely recognized threat on earth today. These small, inexpensive devices are also at the front of the technology parade, finding their way into many industries. Erebus Dynamics has been invited or requested to consider how drone threats and drone operations might be supported or aggressed. Particularly on America's southern border and throughout U.S. law enforcement, drones are a valuable tool and a serious risk.
This is also very appropriate to the applied research goals of Erebus, given the experience and knowledge of our founder and chief scientist, Tom Dubas, who was stationed as a 101st Army J-DOC Drone Specialist in Afghanistan. Erebus is preparing to prototype several drone services, including a directed energy interdiction system which will include a solid-state laser-based ultraviolet weapon platform. Our focus is on off-the-shelf, commercial drones. Some general comments on this project are included here.
INTERDICTION
A direct energy UV laser weapon (guided by radar) will be mounted and fired from a ground drone to destroy invading or attack drones wherever it is needed and authorized in U.S. states and counties.
The UV end of the spectrum (ultraviolet, deep blue) is a smaller wavelength, delivering more energy in a small space
Another advantage of the wavelength area - we have matched the wavelength for detection of biological agents and also produce waves to sanitize an area of such agents
The system can produce a plasma channel where the air in the path will breakdown, allowing electricity to flow unimpeded along this light path. The effect is close to hitting a target with a bolt of lightening.
Then by controlling the voltage and amperage of the electricity being sent by the laser, we control the effect of contact with the human body; a small setting will simply tickle the skin and so on.
The weapon can also be used to easily/quickly destroy tires on vehicles or to target thee driver of a vehicle. Thee laser will not pierce the metal of a vehicle but passes easily through glass and acts like tire spike strip but effective in rough terrain, no roads.
FULL RANGE SPECTRUM OF EREBUS WEAPON PLATFORM
The laser travels in a straight line
Not affected by wind, gravity, lights, temperature
No bullet flight path - no ballistic curve
Does not run out of ammo
STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR DRONE INTERDICTION
CRAM: Steps to ID hostile threat, radar identify and categorize (VAR, visual aircraft recognition)
Check radar for transponder, check identity, determine friend or foe
Receive authorization to continue
SUPPORT CAPABILITIES (to surveil select areas)
The Erebus Ground Drone will be available to assist launching multiple smaller drones and to collect intel and monitor/count the incursion of immigrants into various border areas.
A wide area can be surveilled with minimum personnel using such technologies as LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network).
Long range and coverage:Up to 15 kilometer range
Low Power:Ultra low-power radios, devices operate several years on one charge
Low-cost hardware: Very low-cost and Open-source version
High Capacity: A single gateway can link thousands of endpoint devices
Design will tie all contact points back into a mesh network, then back to a single point - communicated over cellular or satellite to bring everything back to a single cell phone account for data backhaul. This makes it very difficult to detect or disrupt.
